BANNED IN D.C.

A NEW JOURNEY BEGINS

al·le·go·ry

noun

“a story, poem, or picture that can be interpreted to reveal a hidden meaning, typically a moral or political one.”

The first bar to blend art, literature, social good, craft cocktails, and hospitality.

Allegory is hidden behind a nondescript door in the Eaton DC’s Progress Library. A one-of-a-kind work of art by Erik Thor Sandberg spans the bar. It depicts Lewis Carroll’s Alice in Wonderland & Through the Looking Glass, but the deeper, underlying meaning is that the classic tale is told through the eyes of Ruby Bridges—the first Black child to desegregate the William Frantz Elementary School in Louisiana in 1960. Equally imaginative cocktails by Creative Director Deke Dunne, who helms the bar, and the bar team of D.C. all-stars, include creative takes on classics while using advanced culinary and molecular techniques.
